Ward Three Alderman Kevin Dale White, who previously served with Williams at the NAFD, told amusing anecdotes about their service together.

White said he and Williams were in a burning church building several years ago when the roof started to collapse. White yelled out, “Flop, we need to get out of here.” Williams didn’t move to leave. White yelled again, “Flop let’s go!” When Williams did not follow him, White said, “I grabbed him and dragged him out of there over the tops of the pews.”

“Then,” said Williams, “he threw me out in the yard!”

New Albany Fire Chief Mark Whiteside presided at the event, which approximately hundred family members and friends attended at the New Albany Community Center.

Others who received awards included:

Allen Dunnam as “Grandfather of the Year.”

Hunter Burke as “Firefighter of the Year.”

Justin Howard received the “Future Leadership” Award.

Josh Self was recognized with the “Reverse Driver Award.
